BATES, COLEMAN BEDFORD Mr. Coleman Bates, age 69, departed this life, Sunday, April 19, 1992 at his residence, Route 2. He was born in Halifax, Va. on January 23, 1923 and was the son of the late Jack Bates and Bessie Jones Bates.

He was a retired employee of the Adams Construction Company. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma J. Bates; one son, Mr. Cleveland O.

Johnson; two daughters, Mrs. Sharon E. Ware and Mrs. Wanda J. Sharpe, all of Bedford; four sisters, one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, April 22, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bedford Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in the Fairmont cemetery in Bedford.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bedford Funeral Home. BIRCH, GWENDOLYN O. Gwendolyn (Gwen) Overfelt Birch, age 36 of Roanoke, died Saturday at her home. Surviving are her husband, Richard (Hood) Birch; daughter Dorothy L.

Clarice Martin Blount, age 71 of 1408 Maiden Lane, S.W., died Friday in a local hospital. Mrs. Blount attended Virginia Heights Baptist Church, and was retired from S. H. Heironimus Company.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Sandra) Tabor, Boones Mill; two sons, Barry W. Blount, Vinton; Kent M. Blount, Bartlesville, nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Joseph W. Martin, Anaheim, Calif.

Services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel by Dr. Daniel E. Scott. Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. DAVIS, ANNIE B. Annie Brugh Davis, age 93 of Roanoke, died Sunday in a local hospital.

Ms. Davis worked for many years as a dental assistant for Dr. J. Fuller Robinson. She was a member of Bonsack United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Henry Owen Davis, Renton, A. Kent Davis, Troutville; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Glade Creek Cemetery by the Rev. John W.

ROSWELL, GEORGIA Mrs. Mary Garrett Dudding, age 83 of Roswell, formerly of the Salem-Roanoke area, died April 17, 1992, in Roswell, Ga. Survivors include one son, Mr. Gene Garrett, Marietta, one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Burnett, Salem, two grandchildren, Susan Hebrank, Atlanta, Richard Garrett, Augusta, and three great-grandchildren, Lindsay Hebrank and Brandon and Benjamin Garrett.

EANES, CHARLIE H. Charlie Howard Eanes, age 95 of Vinton, passed away Sunday at the Veterans Medical Center in Salem. He was a retired engineer for American Viscose, and served in World War I with the U.S. Army. He was predeceased by his wife, Mae Webber Eanes.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy E. McCraw, at home; Mrs. Thomas (Audrey) Hard, Vinton; two grandsons, H. (Bill) McCraw and Thomas F.

Hard, one granddaughter, Mrs. Terry Obenchain; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday, April 22, 1992, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Holly O. Phillips officiating.

HARKINS, MILDRED G. MARION Mrs. Mildred G. Harkins, age 63, died Sunday, April 19, 1992, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mrs.

Harkins was a retired school teacher, having taught for 37 years. She was recently honored by the Marion Kiwanis club when they established The Mildred Harkins Creative Writing Program at the Marion Primary School. HIGGINS, JAMES A. LEXINGTON James Albert Higgins, age 72, died Saturday, April 18, 1992, at his residence. Born March 23, 1920, in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late William and Kate Smith Higgins. He was retired from Burlington Industries after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Bible Church at Rockbridge, and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hostetter Higgins; and one daughter, Pauline Higgins.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty Moore, Rosie Hostetter and Nadine Higgins, all of Lexington; two sons, Larry Higgins and Eugene Higgins, both of Lexington; one sister, Gladys Staton, Lexington; four brothers, Paul Higgins and Raymond Higgins, both of Lexington; Richard Higgins, Sterling, Brownie Higgins, Buena Vista; sixteen grandchildren, and fifteen great children. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. from the Bible Church at Rockbridge with the Rev. George Warden and the Rev. Frederick Ritsch, III, officiating.

MARION Mrs. Reba O. Holloway, age 86, died Sunday, April 19, 1992 in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mrs. Holloway born in East Texas in 1905 and was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventists Church.

She was a nurses aid and enjoyed sewing, gardening and loved children. She is survived by two daughters, Leona M. Lineville of Marion and Mabel Antonetti of Altamonte Springs, one half brother, Alfred O'Rear of Austin, Texas; one half sister, Eunia Shultz of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21 at 4:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

MANASSAS Donald Lee Hughes, age 49 of Manassas and formerly of Pulaski, died Sunday, April 19, 1992, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Judy Ann Hughes; two sons, Jason K. Carl Arthur Lee, age 90 of Roanoke, passed away Easter Sunday in a local hospital. Mr. Lee was retired from the Norfolk Western Railroad, a member of the Connely Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Edna S. Lee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Charles Guthrie, Orlando, Daphne and Philip Pannill, Roanoke; grandchildren, Carl A.

Lee III, Cynthia Poff, George Lee, Jimmy Lee, Sharon Smith, Nancy Ferguson and Ann Soyars; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren. Friends may call at Lotz Salem Cha- pel. MACNEIL, ROBERT Robert MacNeil, age 83 of 327 Hershberger Road, Roanoke, died Saturday, April 18, 1992. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Willis MacNeil and was retired from the Norfolk Western Railway. Mr. MacNeil was an honorary member of the Knights of Pythias.

Surviving are a brother-in-law; several sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be from Evergreen Burial Park at 11:00 a.m. Monday, The Rev. Charles A. Watkins will officiate.

Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. MARTIN, ORBA C. GALAX O. C. Martin, 87, died Friday, April 17 at his home, 209 Calhoun Street.

He was born on August 26, 1904 in Carroll County, Virginia, the youngest son of the late Charles Lewis and Marietta Webb Martin. He was a member of the Galax Primitive Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Galax Lions Club. 0.C. and Norma Martin founded, owned and operated Martin's Flowers Greenhouses for 36 years. From the Martin Greenhouses, florists in Virginia and North Carolina had available quality flowers for all occasions.

He worked in Coalwood, West Virginia, for George L. Carter and later worked in War, West Virginia for I.D. Webb. In 1936, Mr. Martin moved his family to Galax, Virginia and worked for C.L.

Smith at Galax Upholstry and also operated Martin's Print Shop until opening Martin's Flowers Greenhouses in 1943. After retirement in 1979 from the flower business, 0.C. pursued his love of trains often seen at the depot. He enjoyed a special camaraderie with all employees on the Galax rail system. He had special duties of checking the yard, tracks, and outgoing freight.

His one delight of railroading was riding both the last passenger and last freight train to pull from the Galax Depot. He is survivied by his wife of sixty-eight years, Norma McGrady Martin; children, Millie M. and A. B. Feuer, Roanoke; C.

L. and Lucy Martin, Galax; Lois M. and Ed Hastings, Roanoke; Roger A. and Pat Martin, Galax; seven grandchildren; thirteen two stepsisters and one stepbrother, Vera Mills, Freida McHone and Roby Martin, all of Mount Airy, N.C. Funeral services will be held on Tues21, at 11:00 a.m.

Miskell, formerly of Roanoke, died suddenly Friday April 17, 1992. He was born in Washington, D.C. on May 14, 1962. He grew up in Virginia Beach and moved to Roanoke in 1987. He moved to Buffalo, New York in December of 1991.

Mike worked as a substance abuse counselor at Friendship House and as a relief aide at United Cerebral Palsy Association, both in Lackawana, N.Y. His jobs prior to that were in Roanoke, Va. as a director of a homeless shelter (RAM). Mike believed in helping people in need and gave of himself freely. Mike volunteered much of his time in Hegira House, a treatment facility for chemical dependency.

He believed in giving back what he had received. Survivors include, his wife, the former Lisa Besterman; one son, Mi- chael and one daughter, Rebecca Jean; father and mother, Joseph and Mary of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Ronald E. of Colorado; Joseph P. of Rustburg, Va. MOSELEY, LeBARON Dr.

LeBaron Moseley, age 86 of Roanoke, died Sunday. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Moseley was later awarded his master's degree and doctorate degree is psychology from the University of Tulsa. He had taught graduate courses locally for the University of Virginia Extension.

Dr. Moseley had retired as Chief of Vocational Counselling in Psychology Service at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was born in Granite City, and was an army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Ruth L.

Moseley; a son, 1 LeBaron A Moseley, a daughter, Martha Ann Moseley; and grandchildren, Angela Leigh Moseley and LeBaron Moseley, III, all of Roanoke. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 10:30 a.m. Monday. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church 2:00 p.m.

NEWCOMB, CLEMMIE A. BUCHANAN Clemmie Aus- tin Newcomb, age 90, died Saturday. She was a member of the Bible Believing Baptist Church where she had a part in the purchase of the church steeple. Mrs. Newcomb was preceded in death by her husband, J.

RICHARDSON, HARRY E. SR. Harry Edward (Cotton) Richardson age 70 of Roanoke, died Saturday. He was retired from the U.S. Post Office and the U.S.

Army. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Milam Richardson; sons, Harry E. Richardson Durham, N.C.; William (Bill) Richardson, Minnesota; stepson, Michael E. Dalton, Roanoke; daughter, Donna D. Coulson, Roanoke; brothers, Leslie G.

RYAN, JOHN D. CHRISTIANSBURG John D. Ryan, age 62 of 850 Mountain View Drive, died Friday, April 17, 1992 in Tucson, Arizona. He was formerly of Corning, N.Y. and retired from Corning Glass after 40 years service.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Christiansburg Kiwanis Club, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, The Elks Club in Tucson and a member of St. Jude's parrish in Radford. Monday at the Lomax Funeral Home. SNEAD, MARLON M. Mr. Marlon McCoy Snead, age 79 of 6509 Carefree Lane, Roanoke, died Saturday morning in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Regina Critzer Snead.

Mr. Snead was born January 22, 1913, in Covington, a son of the late Thomas Edward Snead and Lelia Deaner Snead. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Clifton Forge. Mr. Snead was a retired engineer with the Railroad.

Maude Wilson Zimmerman, age 82 of Roanoke, passed away Saturday at her residence. She was preceded in death by her son, Harry Clayton Wilson, and her husband, Robert Zimmerman.
