What does diversion mean in flight status? ›

A diverted flight is simply one that lands at an airport that wasn't the intended destination. Plane diversions — whether due to weather, mechanical issues, medical emergencies, or even unruly passengers — aren't common, but they do happen.

Services you are entitled to in case of a flight diversion

If the flight is delayed by more than 3 hours, you have the right to assistance services such as meals, refreshments, two telephone calls, or emails. If the aircraft lands at a different airport, the airline must transport you to your original destination.

Bags are automatically transferred onto international flights. Domestic connecting customers (including those connecting to flights operated by our codeshare partner IndiGo) must collect their bags, clear customs, and proceed to the respective airline check in desk in the departures terminal.

Most (but again, not all) airports connect international terminals airside. Flight Diversion. A flight diversion is when an aircraft is unable to arrive at its final destination. All diversions are unforeseen; otherwise it is described as an alternate prior to departure.

Unless there is a report filed, you will be unable to find out the reason. There certainly was one, but airlines normally do not communicate reasons for diversions.
