Katie Holmes was prohibited from publicly having a boyfriend for five years after finalising her divorce from Tom Cruise.
Back in 2017, Dawson's Creek actress Katie and Jamie Foxx subtly confirmed their relationship, four years after they first got together. The now former couple's quiet revelation came just after the fifth anniversary of Katie's infamous divorce from Tom, which wasn't a coincidence at all.
Top Gun star Tom, who is reportedly set to appear at the 2024 Olympic Games closing ceremony in Paris this evening, is thought to have been the reason behind his ex-wife's decision to keep her love life under wraps in the years following the high-profile split.
During the fierce dispute over their £275million fortune, it was reported that Tom, 62, had enforced a strict contract that prohibited Katie, 45, from discussing their marriage or dating publicly for five years.
A source told Radar Online in 2016: "She's allowed to date, but she cannot do so in a public fashion, and she's not supposed to let any boyfriend near their daughter, Suri." By agreeing to this clause, Katie reportedly received £3.6million in child support and £3.8million for herself.
On top of this, there was the £40million prenuptial agreement that Katie arranged with her lawyer father's help, where she gained £2million for each year of their five-year marriage and a trust fund for 11 year old Suri. The settlement also allegedly included firm rules that Suri would not join the controversial Church of Scientology, where Tom is a high-ranking member.
Katie had sole custody of Suri, 18, and it's been reported that Tom hasn't seen or spoken to his daughter since she was a child. Suri, who resides in New York, hasn't been publicly pictured with her famous dad since 2012 and these days, Tom doesn't even live in the same state as his offspring.
A year after her divorce, Katie secretly began dating Oscar winner Jamie, 49, in August 2013 after they performed together at a charity gala in New York. However, she had first met him at a football match seven years prior introduced by Tom, 55, who had befriended the Ray actor while filming the 2004 movie Collateral.
US insiders claimed at the time that she was so keen to keep their relationship a secret that she donned a wig and hat for a hotel rendezvous with Jamie while Jamie rubbished rumours they were an item as "100% not true". In 2015, their veil of secrecy nearly lifted when Katie was spotted at Jamie's surprise birthday party at Le Bilboquet in New York, with sources saying she was "so in love" with her beau. Their relationship seemed to be confirmed in a photo of them hand-in-hand in a recording studio, but Jamie continued to maintain they were "just friends".
In 2016, she was seen adoringly watching from the audience as he performed alongside Barbra Streisand in New York, and he treated Katie to a private jet trip to Mexico for her birthday. Suri was reportedly already "definitely aware" of their relationship, but when quizzed about her love life, Katie simply said: "That's not something I want to answer."
Jamie's pal, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan, had to retract her words after publicly stating the couple were "really happy". In 2017 as her five-year divorce contract approached its end, her encounters with Jamie became increasingly public. They were spotted dining together in New York before Jamie jetted off to Paris, where Katie joined him on the Robin Hood set in May that year.
Despite sneaking into the Park Hyatt Vendome hotel in Paris through a private entrance, pals of the smitten pair have hinted they're ready to reveal their romance. A friend spilled to a US magazine: "She says she loves him from the tips of her toes to the top of her head."
However, it wasn't meant to be and the pair eventually called it quits. In August 2019, just two years on from getting the all-clear to go public with their romance, Jamie and Katie ended their romance after six years of dating.
